Homemade Bows

My husband and I have bought land here in Virginia in Giles County.  The land from where we live now is about a 35 minute drive.  We bought 20 acres and will be only the third resident on the dirt road.  We love it out there. It is peaceful and quite.  you can sit outside and not hear anything but the birds, tree frogs and crickets!

Hopefully in the near future we will be living out on our land.  We are in the process of getting the septic in...then it is the well and getting a trailer of some type out there.  Though now, we do have a 20x10 shed out there so my husband can store tools and other things we need out there.  This weekend he built a porch on the front of it so we have a place to sit, up off the ground if we want.

Of course the girls have another theory.  Most of the time they think it is "boring" and God forbid their Ipods should die.  Shawn was telling them how when he was little he would make his own toys which got them asking what kind.  One he said was a bow.  So off into the woods Madison and Shawn went.  About two minutes later Carli changed her mind and wanted to go.  So I yelled for him and walked her out the him.

They came back with he sticks they needed.  Then shawn got out some string and they had their bows.  Seriously...I wasn't sure it would keep their attention.  Boy was I WRONG!

They stood on the edge of the small porch shooting their "arrows".  Some just fell right in front of them others flew quite a ways.
Here they are just learning to hold the bow and to actually use the bow and arrows together.

Seriously I wasn't sure how long it would last.  But they did it for well over an hour...and then they didn't want to stop. But we had to make them because it was getting dark.  Then they both asked if they could bring the "bows" home...so they really must have liked them.

The entire time they were practicing, not once did we hear about their Ipods or how bored they were.  I even said to my oldest who of course is a teenager and to her nothing mom and dad does is fun, "Did you have fun?".  She just looked at me, and I said "well, was it fun?" and begrudgingly she said, "Yes, it was"...with a smirk on her face like she was annoyed that she had fun doing it.  Good Lord, you gotta love teenagers.   Madison of course loved doing it, but she was a willing participant from the start.  I guess it just goes to show sometimes you have to make the kids do something they start off thinking they don't want to because in the end they will like it!

The girls are already asking when we can go out and do it again.  Sadly, with work and such sometimes it is hard to get out during the week.  But he promised next weekend.  Also, since they liked it so much we may get them their own real bow and arrows and target so that they can practice and have ones to really shoot with.

Sympathy

Sympathy card made for a friend of mine who lost dad dad a few weeks ago.  Of course I never like having to make them but I do when the need arises.  Can't wait to visit my friend in a few weeks.

I used Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum, Chocolate Chip and Whisper White for my colors.  The stamp set is Too Kind. I also used the Large Oval Punch and the new punch Artisan Label Punch.

Hope you all have a great week!

Moving...and Goodbye

My friend Cailin is almost finished with graduate school.  She has accepted a job in Maryland and will be moving to Gettysburg, Pa next week.

She is the first person here in Virginia that I met when looking for friends to craft with. She introduced me to the Queen Bee Croppers crafting group that I am now a part of and like to scrapbook with.  On July 20th we had a goodbye crop for her with a few of our members.  We each created a 8x8 layout for her and gave her the album with the pages in it as a going away present.

Queen Bee Croppers group that all got together on Saturday (July 20th).
Me and Caitlin at the crop.

Caitlin is a very crafty girl!  She does some awesome craftiness.  Another craft of hers is knitting.  And she is a member of a knitting group that meets up Wednesday's at a local coffee shop and sometimes on Saturday at a local yarn store. Thanks to Caitlin and another friend of mine I learned how to knit and now knit with her and the rest of the group on Wednesday's.  Anyway...this past Wednesday our knitting group met as usual and had a little "going away" party for Caitlin.
We had a good time.  Knitting, eating goodies and just having fun!  We all printed our favorite knitting patterns and put them in a binder along with gift cards for her.  We got them from all different places and hopefully they will come in use at her knew house.

Caitlin, thanks for all you have taught me in crafting in the last year and a half and for being such a great friend.  Good luck in your new adventure!  You will be missed here!

Hi Stamper friends!
Happy rainy weekend....well Rainy here in Southwest Virginia!
This week I decided to try Triple Time Stamping.  I saw a card I really liked here HERE.  So much fun doing these.  I really enjoy this technique!

I used Lacy & Lovely Stamp set #127784.
The colors I used are Perfect Plum, Chocolate Chip, Wild Wasabi & Whisper White.   The ribbon I had was just from my stash of left overs!

Have a great day! Thanks for stopping by!

Our family

Just a quick layout with some family pictures we took back in December.  I know...I can't believe I got one done from December when I am still working on layouts for 3 years ago.  I have no rhyme or reason on what I scrap....just whatever mood strikes me.
For this layout I used mainly paper out of my stash. Most of it is either CTMH or Stampin UP.  I also used a variety  of stamps. I don't know why I just like using stamps on my layouts!  They too are CTMH and Stampin Up.  Also a few sets from Verve.  I did use a sketch for this, but I can't find the one I used.  Once I do I will provide where it came from!

Fun Party!

This past weekend we had Madison's 9th birthday party at the pool.  For 10 days...starting July 3rd thru the 13th...I checked the weather forecast EVERYDAY!  Yep...Everyday.  And sometimes several times a day.  What was the forecast  you ask?  0% chance of rain until 3 pm then the chances went up to like 40%.

So the morning of her party...guest what we woke up to...the sun? NOPE!  It was RAIN.  Thankfully no thunderstorms.  But it was rain and kinda cool.  But we still had the party.  I mean seriously they were going to get wet anyway.

She had a blast.  Ten of her friends showed up which was awesome since well it is summer and I know how busy people are in the summer.  We had pizza and cake and of course swimming!
This kids took a break from swimming to have some pizza!  They were a bit cold since it was raining and the temps were on the cooler side.
Then we had cake.   You know kids...they all love that.  We had some that like just the icing and soe that like just the cake.  Gotta love 'em!

Madison was so excited to get her doll!  The doll given name was Charlotte, however Madison has several babies and they all start with an M.  So she has renamed her new baby Megan!
I am just glad that even with the rain all the kids had a good time. We were thankful that even with the rain they could still swim.

Happy Birthday Madison!

Happy 9th Birthday today to my sweet, caring, fun, happy, crazy, ONE DIRECTION lovin' daughter Madison!

We are having her party Saturday but she opened her present tonight from us since today is her birthday.   We are also having her cake on Saturday...so today we celebrated with a piece of banana bread (which her dad made last night), ice cream with strawberry syrup and reddi whip!

She gave up on the fork and spoon and just dove in!

She is one happy girl!  Her with her new Harry doll...of course all her other presents that were 1D...or One Direction!

Happy Birthday Madison!  I love you!

It's Finished!

First, Happy Independence Day to all my blogger friends. Hope you are all having a great day.  We are enjoying our relaxing day.  Hanging out with the kids and later a cookout and sparklers.

Now on to some exciting news. Well, exciting news for me!   Last night I finished my first major knitting project. It is my first article of clothing!  YEAH!  And here it is....

It turned out to the exact size I wanted it.  However now that it is made I guess it is a bit big.  But not because the gauge was wrong. Like I said I had planned for it to be a bit bigger than some of the others I have seen!  I wanted it to completely close over my front.  I have to get a different "shawl pin".  The knitting needle holding it closed won't work for a permanent closure.  So I am going to find some fun shawl pins to use.   But I had to at least post my finished product.

I had a few bumps in the road while making it.  Somewhere after the first sleeve and on to the back I somehow dropped a stitch, but thanks to my smart hubby and the help of my knitting buddies at our weekly needing meeting I was able to fix it and keep going instead of tearing it out!

Now it is finished and I am excited to find another project to start!

Birthday Layout

Hello hello!  I have another layout to share today!  My youngest is turning 9 this month and I just did her  6th birthday layout!  Yep, I might be behind just a bit!  Oh, well.  I am slowly getting there.

I used mostly scraps for this layout.  I am not sure which paper packs they come from, but I do know the paper is from both CTMH and Stampin up!.  The date stamp set is from Verve...sets Calendar countdown and Remember this. Love those sets.  I have been using them a lot for my version of my project life as well.  The label cut out is with the date on it is from My Favorite Things.  Yes I am a Die cutting junking!  I love Die-namics from MFT,  cut above dies from Verve, frameabilities from Stampin Up and of course Nestabilities.  You will pretty much find some kind of cut out all every single one of my layouts or cards!

Don't forget to check out my Virtual Garage Sale.  I am adding new stuff every day!
